Most drivers we talked to had the same story: a glove box full of crumpled shop receipts, a folder somewhere with the title and insurance card, a photo on their phone of the last inspection sticker they may or may not find when they need it, and no real idea when the next service is due. When it came time to sell the car privately — Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, CarGurus — the only proof of how well it had been looked after was a verbal promise to the buyer and a stack of paper. Years of careful ownership, lost in a drawer.
The big car platforms don't help either. They treat drivers as leads to sell to — insurance quotes, extended warranties, dealer trade-in offers, refinance pitches. Every email has a hook. The data belongs to the platform, not the driver. We thought that was wrong.
