Mekavo Angel
Before you open the door, ask them to scan the code on your phone. You see who they say they are. What you do next is your decision.

-
🤝 Their name, phone and a live face photo
They type their name, prove their phone by sending one WhatsApp message, and take a live face photo, or say no and you see “Photo declined”. Their face is not compared with anything.
-
🪪 They see yours first
Nobody can ask for someone else’s face without giving their own. They see your name, your proven phone and your live photo before they give anything.
-
🔗 Share with someone you trust
Either of you can send the record to a person you trust from your own WhatsApp. They can only read it. Mekavo sends nothing.
-
🗓️ Kept 30 days, then deleted
Unless one of you reports that something happened; then it is kept for the police. No app or account is needed to answer.
-
⏰ Check on me
If you don’t tap “I’m OK” in time, Mekavo sends this person one email: that you did not confirm, who you met, and the emergency number. Nothing else.
🏢 For businesses whose people meet strangers
Hosts meeting guests, agents showing a flat, tradespeople, carers and cleaners going into homes: each person on your team uses Mekavo Angel on their own phone. The person at the door scans their code, and both see who the other is before the door opens.
- Hosts: see who is arriving before you hand over the keys — and your guest sees it is really you.
- Viewings and home visits: the client sees a real person with a proven phone, and your colleague sees the client.
- Each record belongs to the two people who met, kept 30 days unless one of them reports something.
- Free for every person on your team. No contract, no card.
Meeting someone in South Africa — dating-app kidnappings, and the minute before the door
South African police have warned that syndicates use fake dating-app profiles to lure people into kidnappings, robberies and extortion, and several syndicates targeting gay and lesbian users have been arrested; in 2026 four men were jailed for kidnappings and robberies set up through a dating app in 2023. Gauteng's legislature has told people to verify who they are meeting by video call and to tell someone they trust. Mekavo Angel puts that check at the door: they scan your code, and you see a name, a phone proven by one WhatsApp message and a live photo — and they see yours.
Should I meet someone from an app at a door at all?
Meet first in a busy public place and tell someone you trust where you are going. If you do meet at a door, ask them to scan your code before it opens — what you see there is yours to judge, and you can say no.
What happens if they refuse to give a photo or prove their phone?
You see it before you open: "Photo declined", or a phone that was never proven. Nothing forces them to answer, and nothing forces you to let them in.
Can a guesthouse, an agent or a contractor use it?
Yes. Hosts, estate agents, contractors and carers use it at the door, each person on their own phone and account, free. Either side can send a read-only copy to someone they trust from their own WhatsApp.
Mekavo is software, not the police. In an emergency, call SAPS on 10111, or 112 from a mobile. The Gender-Based Violence Command Centre answers 24 hours a day on 0800 428 428, or dial *120*7867# for a call-back; people with disabilities can SMS "help" to 31531.
Mekavo does not check anyone’s background and cannot promise that anyone is safe. In an emergency, call your local emergency number first.
