In the US, short-term rental rules are set by each city and state. New York City requires stays under 30 days to be registered with the Mayor's Office of Special Enforcement under Local Law 18, with the host living there and present; San Francisco limits unhosted stays to 90 nights a year. Mekavo Stay keeps your registration number on each place, where it can show on your page, and counts every booked night — direct, Airbnb, Vrbo or Booking.com — against the limit you set, with a warning before you pass it.
Mekavo is the software, not the authority. Registration, night limits and occupancy taxes (often a state tax plus a city transient occupancy tax) are set by your city, county and state; platforms collect some of these taxes, not all. Your HOA, condo or co-op rules can also ban rentals under 30 days. Check your own city's rules.
