Ireland's 130,000 farms are the backbone of rural communities — and rural garages. Every farm has at minimum: one 4×4 (Toyota Hilux, Land Cruiser, Mitsubishi L200, or Ford Ranger), one tractor, one trailer, and usually a quad bike or UTV. Larger farms have multiple vehicles, multiple tractors, and specialised equipment.
All of this needs maintenance. And the farmer's local garage has been doing it for decades — often on a handshake and a verbal agreement. No invoices, no records, no scheduled maintenance. Just "I'll bring the jeep in next week" and "the tractor is making a noise."
The Farm Revenue Nobody Counts
A typical Irish dairy or beef farm spends on vehicle/machinery maintenance:
- Farm jeep/ute service: 3–4 services per year × €200–€400 = €600–€1,600
- Tractor service: 2 per year × €300–€600 = €600–€1,200
- Tractor repairs (breakdowns): €500–€2,000/year average
- Trailer maintenance: Brakes, lights, bearings × €200–€500/year
- Quad/UTV service: 2 per year × €100–€200 = €200–€400
- NCT for road vehicles: Pre-NCT + repairs = €300–€600/year
- Tyres (all vehicles): €500–€1,500/year
Total per farm: €2,900–€7,300/year. With 10 farm customers: €29,000–€73,000/year. That is often 30–50% of a rural garage's total revenue — and most garage owners have never calculated it.
The Farm Account Advantage
Farmers are not walk-in customers. They are account customers. They expect:
- Monthly invoicing: Not pay-per-visit. One invoice at the end of the month for all work done.
- Flexibility: "Can you come to the yard and look at the tractor?" On-farm service calls are expected in rural Ireland.
- Seasonal understanding: Silage season (May–September) and calving season (January–March) = urgent repairs. They cannot wait 3 days.
- Parts on account: "Put it on my account" — they trust you to charge fairly.
Managing Farm Accounts Properly
The challenge: when you do 5 jobs for Paddy Murphy's farm in March — two on the jeep, one on the tractor, one on the quad, one emergency call-out — you need to track all of it for one monthly invoice. Without records, you forget a job, underbill by €200, and lose money you already earned.
Track every vehicle per farm in Mekavo. One customer, multiple vehicles. Generate a monthly summary invoice. The farmer gets one document for their accountant. You get paid for every job you did. Nobody loses.
Free for Irish garages. Because rural Ireland's garages deserve modern tools without Dublin prices.
