Selling a car privately in Saudi Arabia in 2025-2026 means picking from four major channels: Syarah, Haraj, Motory, and Dubizzle SA. Plus the traditional routes — dealer trade-in, private WhatsApp networks, and the Saudi auction houses.
Each platform reaches a different buyer pool, costs a different amount, takes a different time to sell, and gets you a different final price. Picking right can be worth SR10,000-SR50,000 on a SR200,000 car.
Syarah
The largest structured Saudi used-car platform. Combines listing marketplace with instant-buy and inspection-backed dealer sales.
Listing cost (private): typically free basic listings; paid highlights SR50-SR200.
Instant buy (Syarah pays you directly): typically 75-87% of likely private-sale price. Fast payment (24-72 hours).
Private listing time to sell: 3-6 weeks for fairly-priced mainstream cars.
Final price vs asking (private): 90-96% of asking.
Buyer quality: high — serious buyers, vetted inspection process, lower scam risk.
Best for: mainstream cars priced SR50,000-SR400,000, sellers who want a fair price with reasonable speed, sellers who value the platform's buyer verification.
Haraj
Saudi's dominant classifieds platform. Free listings, massive reach, very active.
Listing cost (private): free basic; paid boost options available.
Time to sell: often days for sharply-priced cars, 2-4 weeks for average pricing.
Final price vs asking: 85-93% — buyers expect negotiation. Opening offers SR15,000-SR40,000 below asking are common on larger vehicles.
Buyer quality: very mixed. Lots of legitimate buyers + plenty of time-wasters, no-shows, lowball offers.
Best for: speed-over-maximum-price sellers, budget vehicles under SR50,000, sellers with time to filter inquiries.
Watch out for: scam attempts are common on Haraj. Classic patterns include "I want to buy from abroad, my agent will collect," fake bank transfer proofs, fake cheque attempts. Cash or verified bank transfer only; meet at a neutral location.
Motory
Mid-size Saudi used-car platform. Structured listings with optional inspection reports.
Listing cost (private): free basic; paid packages SR50-SR250.
Time to sell: 3-6 weeks typical.
Final price vs asking: 88-94%.
Buyer quality: good, though smaller audience than Syarah or Haraj.
Best for: cross-listing strategy — list on Syarah primary, Haraj for volume, Motory for additional structured-buyer reach.
Dubizzle SA
Regional classifieds platform now actively operating in Saudi Arabia. Expat-heavy audience.
Listing cost (private): free basic; paid boost options.
Time to sell: 2-5 weeks.
Final price vs asking: 85-92%.
Buyer quality: skews expat (Asian, African, Western), typically cash buyers, often seeking mainstream reliable transport.
Best for: expat-appealing vehicles (Toyota Corolla, Honda Accord, mainstream sedans), sellers in Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Khobar with expat-heavy neighbourhoods.
Dealer Trade-In When Buying Your Next Car
Still the default path for many Saudi buyers. Often the worst price, sometimes worth it for convenience.
Cost: dealer takes the spread between trade-in value and their retail. Typically 15-30% below private-sale value.
Time: instant — same transaction as the new-car purchase.
Best for: pure convenience when buying a new car immediately.
Saudi Auction Houses
Typically serve the dealer trade. Some accept private consignments for certain vehicle types.
Cost: 7-12% commission on hammer price + listing fee.
Time: 1-3 weeks from consignment to sale.
Final price: wholesale/trade level — often 15-25% below private-sale price.
Best for: quick liquidation, vehicles that would not photograph well privately.
WhatsApp Private Networks
A uniquely Saudi / Gulf sales channel. Expat community WhatsApp groups, compound noticeboards, neighbourhood groups, company internal channels.
Cost: free.
Time: unpredictable — days to weeks.
Final price: typically 93-98% of private listing price — relationship-based trust means less negotiation.
Best for: expats selling to expats, word-of-mouth trusted sales, avoiding platform fees entirely.
The Recommended Strategy for Most Saudi Sellers
- Get a benchmark price from Syarah valuation, Motory valuation, and dealer trade-in quotes. Take the median.
- Get a Syarah instant-buy quote as a backstop number you can accept if private listings stall
- List on Syarah as primary platform at +5-10% above benchmark to allow for negotiation
- Cross-list on Haraj for volume (free, fast)
- Cross-list on Motory for structured-buyer reach
- Post to expat WhatsApp networks if relevant — uniquely Saudi channel for certain vehicle types
- If after 4 weeks no movement, drop price 3-5%, refresh photos, repost
- If after 8 weeks still nothing, accept Syarah instant buy or consider auction consignment
Documentation Buyers Expect to See
Have ready before you list:
- Service history (full logbook + receipts — see Service history at sale article)
- Current MVPI certificate — see MVPI explained
- Absher printout showing Istimara current, no outstanding fines
- Original purchase invoice (if available)
- Owner's manual + service book
- Spare keys
- Tracker transfer documentation if fitted
- Receipts for aftermarket work
Common Scam Patterns in Saudi Sales — Avoid
- "I am abroad, my agent will collect": 100% scam every time
- Overseas buyer offering full asking + shipping cost: fake cheque or fake wire transfer inevitably follows
- Buyer who will not meet in person: legitimate buyers meet, test drive, and inspect
- Buyer pressing to complete transfer without proper Istimara handover: this is how cars enter the informal market; you remain the registered owner legally
- Pay-before-see deposits: no legitimate buyer sends money before viewing
Meet at MOI traffic office or dealer showroom. Verify buyer ID matches bank transfer. Never hand over the vehicle without verified payment AND Istimara transfer completed through Absher or at MOI.
